EFCC Arrest Directors Of National Theater

Some officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday arrested four directors of The National Theatre in Lagos for alleged embezzlement of government funds.

According to the Sources, the four directors, including a woman, were picked up at their Iganmu office for allegedly diverting “huge sums” of revenue and statutory allocation into private use.

It was gathered that the directors allegedly failed to remit revenues realized from the use of facilities at the National Theatre into the Federal Government Treasury Single Account (TSA).
According to sources, among government revenue allegedly embezzled were N24 million annual rent paid by Nigerian Breweries for its 20 branded kiosks and N9 million paid for the use of National Theatre during the “Lagos @ 50” celebrations.
The affected directors were allegedly whisked out of the promises after they refused to honour EFCC invitation for questioning in the office of the Artistic Director and Chief Executive of National Theatre, Mr Tar Ukoh. The intervention of Mrs Grace Gekpe, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, on telephone could not save the officials from being whisked away by the EFCC operatives.
While adressing an Anti – Corruption Rally earlier in the premises, Ukoh who also oversee the National Troupe of Nigeria, vowed to stamp out graft in the Agency. Ukoh said, “Culture must kill corruption before corruption kills culture.”
Reacting to the development, Henry Udubuisi, Vice President, National Theatre Chapter of AUPCTRE, said that the union was behind the decision of the management to rid the Agency of corruption.
AUPCTRE is the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services. Udubuisi told sources that the union would give its support to the new management to cleanse the Agency of graft.
He said, “The position of the union is that we are solidly behind the management to fight corruption in National Theatre. We are also proud to be associated with it. We are using this medium to appreciate the management on its ‘Change must begin with me project.”
“The Artistic Director means well; he wants to address some administrative impunity here. He is not victimizing anybody, he is just asking them to be accountable for what has happened for those who has questions to answer. We need someone like him here to stamp out corruption.”
“The union will never condone corruption; infact the union stands against corruption and we are happy that the management key into our vision.”
“The union has been fighting corruption even before the new management came in, especially when there was a proposal on the sale of the theatre. We fought against what we regarded to as administrative impunity under the then Chief Executive but all what we got was dismissal.”
“Most of the executive members of the union were dismissed for standing against corruption and the sale of the only cultural iconic building in Nigeria.”
When contacted, EFCC spokesman in Lagos, Mr Sam Amadin, said that he was yet to be briefed on the arrest.

See Some Of The Important Reasons Why Nigerians Are Given Tribal Marks

Tribal marks aren’t just for decorative purposes, they hold several meanings to people and are used for several purposes. Let’s take a look at some Nigerian tribal marks and what they are used for.

1. Identity

By the nature of the tribal mark on someone, one can tell where they are from. These tribal marks come in different shapes and sizes based on the locality of the bearer. Tribal marks became very popular during the colonial era where people were being sold into slavery. These marks were given to enable recognition of family members who were taken away, in the event they gained freedom or found their way back home, many years after.

2. Beauty

The place of tribal marks as a symbol of beauty is unknown to many people. This is due to the widespread disapproval that comes with it. Tribal marks are often considered a daint to beauty as they make people look different. However, in some cultures, specific tribal marks are engraved on the skin as a symbol of beauty. These marks are done on specific parts of the body, in specific shapes and sizes, to represent objects of beauty.

3. Social class

Tribal marks are largely used to show the different social strata in a given society. In rural communities, members of a royal clan may be given a certain mark which informs people of their royal heritage wherever they go. The King and his family who hold the highest degree of royalty in a community may have special tribal marks that are exclusive to them. Such marks differentiate them from the rest and give them immunity against certain things. Before the advent of Christianity in Igbo land, people who were considered to be Osu (Outcast) were given certain tribal marks to differentaite them for the “free borns.” The mark was necessary to prevent free association with the outcasts as that was considered an abomination in the communities.

4. Treatment for diseases

Tribal marks play a vital role in saving lives. In the event of certain illnesses that are considered to be strange, some people go the traditional route of treatment. These marks are engraved on the body of the sick one – and certain locally prepared concoctions are applied on them.
Tribal marks are also used to chase away evil spirits. In the event a dead person is disturbing someone alive by constantly appearing to them, certain marks are made on them as part of spiritual cleansing.

A medium of communication, tribal mark is used to pass different messages to people who share the same cultural beliefs and ideologies in Nigeria. Some of these beliefs may be alien to outsiders, hence, they don’t understand the need for such marks. The next time you see someone with tribal marks, rather than cast aspersions, ask them a question or two about it.

Happy Independence Day Nigerians See Wishes From President Muhammadu Buhari’s

Happy Independence Day NIGERIA
As we celebrate Nigeria’s Independence, Nigeria’s president,
Muhammadu Buhari has in more ways and words, revealed his passionate quest to achieve greatness, as a personal legacy, for Nigeria bearing in mind that political leadership is just as the military slogan quotes, “soldier come, soldier go.”

The journey of Nigeria independence was not a bloody path – won on a platter of gold, there was no record of war or deadly battle with the colonial masters who captured and ruled the modern state for 59 years (1849 – 1960), precisely in the 19th century.

By merging the Southern Nigeria Protectorate with Northern Nigeria Protectorate in 1914, the British were able to control all parts of Nigeria through Indirect rule –a system by which the day-to-day government and administration of areas both small and large was left in the hands of traditional rulers.

Nigeria finally gained her independence on October 1, 1960 through a private movement, advocated by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Samuel Ladoke Akintola, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and other unsung heroes of Nigeria’s Independence, from all corners of the nation.

Based on his campaign promises, here are President Muhammadu Buhari’s Independence Day Wishes for the Giant of Africa.

1. One Nigeria

President Buhari wishes for a Nigeria where there is no Muslim Nigeria or Christian Nigeria, no Northern Nigeria or Southern Nigeria. Only one Nigeria, a country where citizens continue to forge ahead despite the challenges; a country where all, both home and abroad, can achieve its full potential.

2. Become World’s Greatest Economy

To industrialize Nigeria; making Information Technology, Manufacturing, Agriculture, Electricity, Science and Technology, and Entertainments key drivers of the country’s economy. To create an alliance with West Africa, South Africa, UK, USA, Canada and other countries that can benefit Nigeria economically and politically.

3. Able to Compete in World Affairs

He wishes for a Nigeria whose passport will not be insulted whenever her citizens travel outside the country. To building a nation where every child can truly be great no matter which part of the country they were born.

4. Security

The President wishes to wipe out insecurity that threatens the lives and well-being of every single person within the country’s borders, and create a freedom of movement, expression and acceptable practices; to simplify immigration process and foster faster visa processing at points of entry.

5. Poverty Free Nation

By creating thousands of job opportunities, supporting private businesses and entrepreneurs through sponsored skill acquisition training, and issuing easy loans. Creating opportunity for millions of middle class to own houses of their own through national mortgage single digit interest rate.

6. Revive and Maintainance the nations Infrastructures

He wishes to reviving and reactivating the minimally performing infrastructures such as the train transportation, Sea ports, mines and refineries, etc… to optimum capacity.

7. Transparent leadership

Mr. Buhari believes that with effective and transparent leadership, the eradication of corruption and respect for the rule of law, things can change for the better, and that is what he wishes to achieve for Nigeria. So that all political officials will only earn salaries and emolument determined and approved by Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC).

8. A Leading Example of ‘Africa Rising’

Buhari Promised To Make ‘Africa Rising’ A Reality In Nigeria

9. A Disciplined and Corruption free nation.

He believes that ‘change begins with you.’ Hence to crown the Independent day celebration, President Buhari wishes for all country people to join the war against indiscipline; by observing the acts of self-discipline which include:Willpower, Restraint, Resolve, Determination, Self-Control, Character, Drive, Courage, Diligence, Endurance, protecting and caring of the nation’s environment and its habitat (humans and animals alike).

10. Produce Nobel laureates

Buhari wishes to initiate a special incentives to facilitate the education of the girl child so as to create a room for more Nobel Laureates among children, youths and all age groups, in all fields of studies.

11. Wishes Nigeria a great Independence Celebration

Just like the prophet Moses, President Buhari wishes to lead Nigeria across the red sea into the promise land. To building a new Nigeria where there would be peace and harmony from North-East to the Niger Delta, and where there would be equal distribution of the nation cake – good source ( jobs ) of income and livelihood for every citizen.

Every leader is a servant to his subject and can only perform when he has a subject to lead. Nigeria deserves a great leader who can provide the people with the basic necessity to grow, including the basic infrastructure: Good roads, easy means of transportation (Air, land, rail and sea) Electricity for industrialization, clean water supply, affordable housing, food and security.
